Mr. Joseph B. Laban, age 76, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011. He was born in Muskegon Heights, MI on December 17, 1934 to Victor & Catherine (Begus) Laban and served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War. He married the former LaMarr Wheeler on July 24, 1954 and had been employed as a Journeyman Electrician for Local #1243, retiring from Howmet in 1997. Joseph was an avid Marine and gardener who was a Detroit Lions & Tigers fan. He enjoyed bonfires, the outdoors and his dogs. But foremost was always his family. SURVIVORS Wife of 57 years, LaMarr; son, Joe II (Sue) Laban of Muskegon; daughters, Cathy (Rick) Golightly of Whitehall, Barb (Jim) Smith of Nunica; grandchildren, Jo Joe, Brea, Nick, Morgan; 2 great grandchildren, Logan brothers, Tom (June) Laban of Muskegon, Bob (Doris) Laban of Muskegon; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Vic and sisters, Vergie Spradling & Evelyn Overkamp. CELEBRATION OF LIFE Sunday, October 2, 2011, 4:00 PM at VFW Don Rea Post 8846.
