Joseph Marco Clemente, 74, passed away peacefully in his Spring Lake home, surrounded by his family on November 2, 2010. Joe was born in Akron, Ohio on November 4, 1935 to Gregorio Clemente and Concetta (Abbomerato) Clemente. He grew up in Lincoln Park, Michigan. After graduation from Lincoln Park High School, he worked in an automobile plant in the Detroit area before joining the army. Joe served 2 years in the United States Army and 3 years in the National Guard. After discharge from the military, Joe earned a Bachelors Degree in Speech Pathology from Western Michigan University. He then studied at Purdue University where he earned a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology, and completed coursework for a PhD in the same field. He attended Michigan State University and earned certification as a Special Education Administrator. On January 8, 1966, Joseph married Mary Gregory in Wyandotte, Michigan. They enjoyed 44 years together. Joseph was employed by the Jackson County Intermediate School District where he served as a Speech Therapist and Supervisor of Speech Therapy Programs. He worked for the Grand Haven Area Public Schools as a Speech Therapist and Director of Special Education. After retirement from public school work he became a financial advisor and stockbroker at FSC Securities in Muskegon. Joseph was as avid reader with a keen mind and many interests who loved a lively discussion. He was a regular at the local farmers markets and enjoyed cooking for friends and family. He loved trout fishing at the family cabin on the Tahquamenon River in the Upper Peninsula. Joe was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ in Grand Haven where he served as a Deacon. He is survived by his loving wife Mary; daughter, Susan Clemente of Portland, Oregon; son, Gregory Clemente of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mother, Concetta Deluco of Muskegon, Michigan. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. A private memorial and celebration of his life will be held for the family at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Harbor Hospice Muskegon, Interfaith Alliance or St Pauls United Church of Christ of Grand Haven.
