Jon Christopher Lenz, 57, of Whitehall, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in Muskegon, following a prolonged illness which he faced with courage. Born on August 9, 1968, in Muskegon to Larry Lenz and Lynn (Burgess) Woodard, Jon was a man known for his skill, his passion, and his quiet love for his family.
A graduate of Spring Lake High School, Jon was a legend on the football field, remembered for his athletic talent. He built a long career as a talented cook, sharing his culinary skills at restaurants in Nashville, London, and locally in Muskegon at establishments like Hob Nob and Dockers.
Jon's greatest passion outside of the kitchen was the game of pool. As a long-time member of the Budweiser Classic Pool League, he was a formidable and respected player, earning numerous trophies and the admiration of his friends and competitors. He met the love of his life, April Gager, at a pool league night. They were together for ten years before marrying on March 11, 2019. A devoted fan, Jon's loyalty was split between his two favorite teams. He proudly wore the colors of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Michigan State Spartans, and friends will always remember him relaxing with a beer in hand, cheering them on. At home, he was a loving owner to his three cherished cats.
Jon was a beloved family man who will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, April Lenz; his parents, Larry (Shirley) Lenz and Lynn (Scott) Woodard; his brothers, Adam (Luz) Lenz and Kevin (Amy) Lenz; and his sister, Jennifer Zlotnicki-Holmond. Though he had no children of his own, he was a devoted stepfather to Jesse (Tiffany) Gager and Lena (Matthew) Gager, and a proud grandfather to Daenerys Gager, Darlene Phillipo, Skyler Morris, and Tolki Aho. He also leaves behind his special nephew, Junior "Bubby" Morris, his best friend of 40 years, Bernard "BJ" Morley, and many other relatives and friends.
Jon didn't like funerals, or celebrations of life. ( he said too sad and too boring. ) He did like picnics and gatherings of friends. Instead, his family will host a "Going Away Party" for friends and family to gather, share stories, and celebrate his life. The celebration will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at DJ's Pub on Henry Street in Muskegon. Everybody has such wonderful Jon stories. This will be his special day. .
