John Lee Smitter

John L. Smitter, 78, passed into life eternal on January 5, 2022, at Heartwood Hospice in Spring Lake. He was born December 13, 1943, in Grand Rapids to Lambert and Helen (Byker) Smitter. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Wherever he went, he left footprints of kindness and love, courage and compassion, humor and inspiration, joy and faith. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Nancy (Landstra) and two daughters, Pamela Smitter and Victoria (Jeff) Leech. John leaves his six precious grandchildren, Madeline, Emma, Jack, Anthony, Elena, and Julia. He also leaves a brother, Robert Smitter (Darlene) and Brother and Sister-in-Law Carroll and Ann Landstra, and several nephews and nieces. A Celebration of Life Service will be May 22 at Trillium Events 17246 Van Wagoner Road, Spring Lake, MI 49456. Guests may greet the family from 2:00 to 2:45 pm. The service will begin at 3:00 pm. Please join the family at a reception after the service. This will be a social time to celebrate John's life by sharing thoughts and memories of a life well lived. Memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
