John R. Phipps

PHIPPS, MR. JOHN R. Mr. John R. Phipps, age 72, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Adrian, MI on December 1, 1931 to Harry and Alice Mae Sayers and married the former Cleo Enders on September 28, 1957 in Adrian. He served his country in the US Army from 1952 to 1954. Mr. Phipps had been a self employed piano tuner and technician. He also worked at Gordon Laughead Piano Factory and for 7 years he was employed in the music department at the University of Michigan, he had also worked for Story & Clark in Grand Haven. Mr. Phipps was a member of The American Legion and the Coast Guard City SAMs Club, he was a long time member of Central Park Players and a former member of Grand Haven Jaycees. SURVIVORS Wife, Cleo; 2 sons, Timothy Shanna Phipps of Spring Lake, MI; David Joanne Phipps of N. Muskegon, MI; daughter, Cheryl Phipps; 5 grandchildren, Chris, Andrea Dorn, Josh, Derek and Ben Phipps; sister, Elizabeth Oscar Leino of Portland, OR; 3 sisters-in-law, Louise Phipps of Onsted, MI, Ellen Phipps of Adrian, MI and Lenora Phipps of Vacaville, CA; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Phipps was preceded in death by brothers, Guy Marge, Roger, William, Donald, Jerry Phipps and sister, Marian.
