Mr. John L. Klomp, age 91, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007, at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. John was born April 24, 1916 in Muskegon to John J. and Martha (Kooiman) Klomp and had lived his entire life in the area. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Infantry and served during WWII resulting in him receiving one purple heart medal, two bronze star medals and one silver star medal. On May 18, 1940, John married the former Viva M. Wills in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on May 12, 1996. Prior to retiring in 1975, John worked 33 years at Teledyne Continental Motors. John was a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church where he served as an elder, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. John was also a member of the DAV Chapter 11, the Christian Service Club, Christian Elementary School Board and past president of the American Material Handling Society. John enjoyed golf and loved to travel. SURVIVORS include his 3 children, Barbara J. (Charles A.) Smith of Muskegon, John L. (Nancy) Klomp of Saginaw, and Kathleen M. (Gordon) Hardy of North Muskegon; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. John was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 3, 2007, at Grace Christian Reformed Church (2500 E. Laketon Ave.) with Rev. Marvin Wassink officiating. INTERMENT will be made at Norton Cemetery. VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service, 10-11 AM Friday, at church.
