John M. Grostic, age 56, of Grand Haven passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 31, 2008. He was born April 5, 1952, in Battle Creek to Marvin and Catherine (Hill) Grostic, and he married the former Eileen Schroeder on August 19, 1978, in Portage, MI. Mr. Grostic moved to the Tri-Cities area in 2004 and was currently employed as a community skills instructor for Kandu, Inc. in Grand Haven. A graduate of Western Michigan University, the University of Michigan Law School, and Trinity Lutheran Seminary, John practiced as an attorney with Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge in Grand Rapids from 1979-1991 and served as pastor at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Muskegon from 1993-2004. He was a member and leader of Extended Grace Faith Community and a former board president of Muskegon Family Care. He had been a board member of Access Health of Muskegon and a Peace Corps Volunteer. John enjoyed camping, hiking, traveling, and reading. Survivors include his wife, Eileen; three sons: Christian of Arlington, VA, Benjamin of Spring Lake, and Peter (fianc'e Kathryn Tornga) of Kentwood; his parents, Marvin and Catherine Grostic of Kalamazoo; his mother- and father-in-law, Victor and Naomi Schroeder of Vicksburg; two sisters, Janyce (John) Huff of East Grand Rapids and Pamela (Terry) Buist of Scotts, MI; and several nieces and nephews. The service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Christ Community Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Ian Lawton and Toni Van Dyken officiating. Friends may meet the family 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Memorial contributions may be made to Extended Grace or Christ Community Church.
