Mr. John J. Gebolys, age 77, passed away April 8, 2007, after a brief illness, at University Park Living Center. He was born July 26, 1929 in Muskegon Heights. He attended St. Michael Catholic School, then Muskegon Heights High School. John proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, spending 39 months in Japan. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He began working at BBC and ended 38 years in 1990. John was Shop Steward; then Chief Shop Steward; then finally elected President of their Carpenter's Union Local 824 serving as President for 10 years. He was an avid hunter and liked to show off the horns of the 240 pound buck that he shot in the Upper Peninsula in the '60s. He also enjoyed fishing at his Crystal Lake cabin. His survivors include his wife, Janet (Montambo) Gebolys; 3 sons: Jim (Penny), David, and Randy (Kelly); 3 daughters, Gail Campbell, Diane (Steve) Aiken, Shelly (Mark) Zbojniewicz; one brother, Al (Shirley); one sister, Ann Wright; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe (Jo) and two sisters, Lottie Hilliard and Wanda (Hank) Tomasiewicz. At his request, a Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 11th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, with Father Mike Olson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service (from Noon to 1:00). No flowers please. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donor's Choice.
