John Albert Cihos, age 72 of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2020, in Cozumel, Mexico, where he had enjoyed spending his winters for the last 6 years. He was born on April 26, 1947, in Muskegon to Helen (Slikowicz) & Stanley Cihos, Sr. & attended Henry St. School, St. Joseph Catholic School, one year at Catholic Central High School & graduated in June 1965 from Muskegon High School. One month later, he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and served from 1965-69, 3 years in Florida & his last year in Viet Nam. On returning home, he worked at Brunswick, Dresser & Westran & also attended Muskegon Community College. There he met his future wife, Eloise Karolyn Mjovig, in Economics 101. They dated from May 1971 until they married on October 20, 1973 at Samuel Lutheran Church & then moved to the Ramblewood Apartments in Wyoming, MI, as Eloise had a new job there & John quickly got a job at Hekman Furniture. He had also received an Associates degree from M.C.C. in Engineering in 1972. They were thrilled to have such a big new apartment all to themselves after both growing up in small houses with big families. In August 1974, John decided he wanted to be a semi-truck driver so he went to Iowa for training using his veteran's benefits once again. By May of 1975, they moved back to Muskegon & John returned to Brunswick until November 1975. when he was hired to drive long distance runs. This quickly grew old as the company wanted one run after another with little time to come home so he decided to buy his own semi and later 2 trailers and become self-employed - running to the west coast and the southern states. He retired 30+ years later at 59 which was his goal. In 1982, he had taken up scuba diving and this became his passion as he joined the West Michigan Dive Club & took his first dive trip to the Grand Cayman Islands in 1983 with Eloise & the dive group. He was hooked! Other trips included Cozumel, Bonaire, Cayman Brac, Antigua, Saba, & Hawaii. After the two babies arrived (Erin Jennifer in '83 & Emily Rebecca in '88), John began going to more exotic dive locations such as Malaysia, Bali, the Maldives & the Red Sea, while Eloise and the girls enjoyed the cottage at Stony Lake as their vacation time. John was a caring and loving father & husband, a wonderful caretaker to his parents in their last 4 years, and an avid sports fan (racing, football, tennis, etc.), as well as a scuba diver for over 30 years. Survivors John's survivors include: his wife of 46 years, Eloise (Ellie); his daughters, Erin Cihos & Emily Cihos; siblings, Ted & Betty Cihos, Diane Anderson, Vicki & Gregg Dimkoff; David & Laurie Cihos; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Cihos, Jordis Hutchins (Bill Blanchette), Janice Mjovig; one godson, Brian Cihos; and many nieces and nephews.
