John L. Carter transitioned from this life surrounded by family on May 5, 2023. He was born into the union of Otha C. and Ruth L. Carter on September 8, 1957, in Magnolia, AR. John L. accepted Jesus Christ at an early age where he remained a member at Homes Near Baptist Church in Magnolia, AR. He graduated from Magnolia Senior High in 1976. He later moved to Muskegon where he met his life partner, Ms. Jimmie Ezell, and her three (3) children: Toni, Felecia, and Deshawn (Monk).
John L. loved his family deeply, especially his nephews and nieces who were like his sons and daughters. He enjoyed dancing and partying with friends in his backyard. He also loved cooking and barbecuing for family and friends. He was a mechanic for over 40 years, a mentor, and a philosopher. He was a member of The Country Boyz Club where they put on dances and travelled together.
He leaves to cherish in his memory: Life partner Jimmie Ezell and her two (2) daughters, three (3) brothers: Otha Ray Carter of Magnolia, AR, Calvin (Sylvia) Carter of Waukegan, IL, and Johnny Ray Center (Karres) of Pine Bluff, AR; three (3) sisters, Dorothy Carter and Patricia Scott of Muskegon, MI, Rozetta Davis of Greer, SC; a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews; close cousins, Emil Culp and the Culp Family, Melvin and Robbie Harris and the Harris Family; close friends: the Rev. Carlos Ramos, Grady Williams, Dohntaine (Tang) Darkins, Earl Williams, Geoffrey Jackson, Henry (Digs) Moore, and his dog Poppy.
He was preceded in death by his son Eric Harden and stepson Deshawn Watts, his parents, two (2) older brothers, James L. and Marzell Carter, one precious niece, Tasha Hampton and four (4) nephews, Samuel Lee Holly, James L. Carter, Jr., Brandon Carter, and Julius Scott.
