John H. Bultema

John H. Bultema II, 58, died suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 at Petoskey. John was born August 22, 1949 to John and Bette (Rosema) Bultema in Muskegon, and lived most of his adult life in the Muskegon area. On August 22, 1985 he married Debi Funnell. John followed his passion and love for the water by starting Lakeshore Contractors with long time business partner, George Bailey, in 1973. They then went on to start several other businesses in the area including Great Lakes Marina, Great Lakes Dock and Materials as well as numerous real estate holdings. John was also very involved in the community, and contributed his talents and treasure to many causes, including Grand Valley State University, USS Silversides and Mona Shores High School. In addition to these insstitutions, John was known by many to be a very generous and giving man who would help out any friend in need. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather "Papa" and friend. His exuberance and love for life will never be forgotten, and his devotion and caring for his family was unmatched. The family he leaves behind includes his wife, Debi; five children: John (Tiffany) Bultema III of Orlando, FL, Dena Bultema of Denver, CO, Sarah Bultema of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Angela (Dave) Bisson of Grand Rapids, MI, and Amy Schultz of Muskegon; his parents, John and Elizabeth (Bette) Bultema of Norton Shores; six grandchildren: Fischer, Hannah, Johnny, Brooke, Lauren and Payton; three brothers: Tom (Chris) Bultema of Muskegon, Jim (Renatta) Bultema of Antayla, Turkey, and Paul (Julie) Bultema of London, England; five sisters: Barb (Dave) Pennell of Wellston, MI, Mary Beth (Bill) Kennedy of Manistee, Ayne Gillern of Swannanoa, NC, Liz (Tim) Horgan of Spokane, WA, and Carroll (Syd) Milman of WI, and was uncle to many nieces and nephews. A CELEBRATION OF JOHN'S LIFE will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday at Berean Church, 635 Seminole Rd., Norton Shores, with Rev. Craig Apel officiating.
