John C. Archer, age 92, of Whitehall, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2023. John was born on January 21, 1931 to Clifford and Emma (Wickland) Archer in Muskegon, Michigan. He married Sarah Hutchins on May 31, 1986.
John graduated from Muskegon High School, class of 1950. He played football in high school and was a lifelong fan of the Big Reds. He was also a fan of Michigan State football, where his Big Red teammate Earl Morrall played quarterback.
John was a skilled draftsman and CAD designer for Teledyne Continental Motors in Muskegon for 40 years before retiring in 1993. He loved being outdoors and found his spiritual solace in the beauty of nature. He and Sarah enjoyed camping and spent most summers traveling around Michigan with their camper trailer visiting towns during annual summer festivals. They made annual trips to Ludington State Park, Timber Creek National Forest Campground, and the Mackinac Bridge Walk. John was an avid reader and loved history. especially World War Il and Michigan history. He amassed thousands of books, documents, maps, and artifacts on Michigan. Later in life John developed an interest in genealogy and researched his ancestry back to Sweden. John had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around and play practical jokes on friends and family.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sarah, sons, Ed Archer, Dave Archer; son-in-law, Randy (Beth) Ferris, grandchildren, Will (Courtney) Ferris, Lauren (Kevin) Johnson, Lauren Ann (Grant) Hazard, Patrick Ferris, Maxx Archer, Elle Archer, six great grandchildren, sister, Ann Wheeler, brothers-in-law, Ben Hutchins, Wes (Molly) Hutchins, Roy Hutchins, and sisters-in-law, Bev Larkin, Jordi Hutchins. and Stella Hutchins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Amy Ferris.
A private family celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 10, 1 to 3 p.m., at The Muskegon Vikings Lodge, 3132 Lakeshore Drive. Please make memorial contribution in John's name to Gentiva Hospice.
