Mrs. Johanna Schrier, age 91, died Sunday morning, March 9, 2008, at Mercy Hospital. She was born November 21, 1916 in Ridgewood, NJ to John & Agnes (VanDyke) Broek; and had resided in the Muskegon area most of her life, spending the last four years at DeBoer Nursing Home. Johanna had attended Unity Reformed Church and was a member of its Winsome Class. She also belonged to TOPS and the Senior Citizens at Fellowship Reformed Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and camping. On May 14, 1937 she married Andrew Schrier and he preceded her in death on May 9, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a grandson; 3 sisters, Carrie Richards, Eleanor Doom and Phyllis Hyma and by 2 brothers, Robert & John Broek. SURVIVORS include her 2 daughters, Beverly (Robert) Kersting of Fruitport and Nancy (Arthur) Visser of Ravenna; 6 grandchildren, Kimberly Kersting of Grand Haven, Gary (Kathy) Kersting of Rockford, MI, Beth (David) Norwick of Muskegon, Vicki Turner of Muskegon, John (Michelle) Visser of Conklin and Sally (Steve) Kidd of Huntington Beach, CA; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Garry (Mary) Broek of TN, 2 sisters, Kathleen Sims and Joyce Workman of Muskegon; 1 brother-in-law, Russell (Martina) Hyma of Zeeland; 2 sisters-in-law, Alice Broek of Pontiac, MI and Evelyn Broek of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews. SERVICES will be 1PM Monday, March 17, 2008 at The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey Street 231-798-1100 with the Pastor Bill Rudd officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. VISITATION with Johanna's family will be 2-4 & 6-8PM Sunday. MEMORIAL GIFTS to either the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Society will be appreciated.
