Joan Riley "Pat" McNally, 79, died on February 10. Mrs. McNally was raised in Chicago, the sixth of nine children in a close-knit Irish-American family. She put herself through the Chicago Teacher's College, graduating with a B.Ed. in 1951. She taught elementary school physical education until 1952, when she married her sweetheart, William F. McNally, an ensign in the U.S. Navy. Their honeymoon was a road trip to his first duty station in San Diego, California. Following his tour of duty, they returned to their hometown of Chicago and began raising a family of eight children. In 1972, they moved to North Muskegon and, in 2006, to Grand Haven. Mrs. McNally was an ardent and competitive bridge player in Muskegon and Grand Haven and an avid reader and gardener. She enjoyed life along the lakeshore and loved the birds and wildlife of West Michigan. She was a gifted story-teller with an engaging personality who enjoyed meeting new people. She was a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. SURVIVORS Mrs. McNally was preceded in death by her husband Bill and daughter Joan. She is survived by seven of her eight children, Mariann (William Dow), Catherine, Maureen, Sheila, John (Ivania), Michael, and Kevin, and her sister Rosemarie (Joseph) Michiels. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Ramsey Khedr, Cameron and Kathleen Dow, and Elizabeth and Jack McNally. SERVICE Saturday, February 14, 2009, 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Fr. William Langlois officiating. VISITATION Friday, 2-5 & 7-9 PM at Clock Life Story Funeral Home - Muskegon. MEMORIAL: Donations are suggested to Ronald McDonald House or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
