BASSETT, MRS. JOAN E. "JOANIE" Whitehall Mrs. Joan E. Bassett, age 89, died Friday, November 5, 2004. She was born in Muskegon on October 24, 1915 to John & Fern Bailey Olsen and married Harold James Bassett on August 29, 1935. Mrs. Bassett had been employed as an interior decorator & coowner of Bassett's Home Comfort Store in Muskegon for 42 years until retiring in 1988. She was a member of McGraft Memorial Congregational Church and was active in Muskegon JC's, the Quadrangle Club, Port City Beagle Club Auxilary, and the Muskegon Town Club. In September she attended her 70th Muskegon High School class reunion. She was known for her outstanding cooking & baking of many varieties of Christmas cookies and making sure that everyone was fed. SURVIVORS Son, Robert Bonnie Bassett of Muskegon; 3 grandchildren, Mike Gina Bassett, Michele Bill Groethe, Steve Marianne Bassett; 3 great grandchildren, Jessica Bassett, Jarrett Bassett, Cole Bassett; 3 sisters-in-law, Norma George Weston, Mary Olsen, both of Muskegon, Polly Bassett of NV; many nieces and nephews; 2 lifelong friends, Audrey Barberini, Bea Hobby; and the wonderful "ABC" girls who helped care for her and became part of her extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on July 16, 2002; sons, James on August 1, 2003, and David in 1937; brother, John Olsen; 3 sisters, Dorothy Cook, Amy Wickerink, and Fern May Olsen. SERVICE Tuesday, November 9, 2004, 1:00 PM at McGraft Memorial Congregational Church with Pastor Gerald Wahr officiating. Interment at Restlawn Cemetery. VISITATION Monday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Clock Funeral Home. MEMORIAL: Hackley VNS Hospice. Clock - Muskegon
