Sr. York, Mr. Jessie D Muskegon Mr. Jessie D. York Sr., born to the union William York and Silvia Humphries in Columbus, Mississippi on August 9, 1931. Jessie better known as "Good Joint Jessie" transitioned peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Mercy Hospital. Jessie was an only child and was taught to love the Lord at an early age. He confessed his belief in Christ when he was 15 years old, on August 6, 1946. Jessie often enjoyed sharing that special date with his loved ones and those he met. Jessie left school early to help support his family financially. On his journey to better help family, he left Columbus, Mississippi, and traveled north to find a better paying job. His mission led him to settle in Muskegon, Michigan. It was then he worked for Lakey's Foundry. Later, his skills took him to Rieth Riley Construction where he worked until retirement due to an injury. One of his favorite past times was hosting family and friends at his home. He loved to see his family and friends having a fun time. Jessie received enormous love from the community. A couple of his favorite sayings were "Don't have no mercy on my pockets" and "Go get yourself a hot breakfast" Jessie's door and heart was always open to anyone. He would lend a helping hand anytime. Family reunions and his yearly birthday celebrations were always his must attend events. Jessie had the honor to be the eldest member of his extended family at 90 years of age. In 2019, the family awarded him as the Patriarch of the Year. Jessie was a sharp dresser and always drove a clean Cadillac. Jessie's favorite genre of music was gospel and blues. He loved good preaching, good singing and a good laugh. His favorite baseball team was the Atlanta Braves. His favorite food was fresh fried fish. Jessie leaves to cherish his love and memories are his Five sons, ( Robert Fletcher, Melvin Fletcher, Major Stewart, Alvin Fletcher, and Jessie (Diane) York Jr); Four daughters (Merlean Fletcher, Jessie (Dwayne) Watkins, Valerie Hough, and Novella Blackshire); Three Daughters-in-love (Debra Fletcher, Cynthia Fletcher and Rhonda York); 39 grandchildren and 89 great grandchildren, with a host of dear relatives and close friends, including John Williams, Robert Lee Dowson, Ralston "Low Boy" Sargent; Paul Thompson; Clayward Smith and Ms. Willie Lee Madison. Jessie was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, two sons (James Fletcher and Wayne Rogers) one daughter, Christine Fletcher, one daughter-in-love, Carla Stewart, and four grandchildren, (Keyla Watkins, Stacy Fletcher, Latricia Rogers and Lashaundra Wright), long time life companions (Ruby D. Fletcher, Annie Mae Stewart, Jewell Webb, and Minnie Lee Rogers). SERVICE A FUNERAL SERVICE for Jessie will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday March 12, 2022 at Angel Community Church., 446 Ada Ave, Muskegon, Michigan 49442 with Pastor Major Stewart, officiating.
