Jean Priscilla Gaskell Trump passed away on December, 1, 2008 after a lengthy illness. She was born on October 22, 1923 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont to Warren P. & Lillian (Cheney) Gaskell. In 1927 the family moved to Michigan. Jean attended elementary and high school in Adrian, and received a BA from the University of Michigan and a MA from Western Michigan University. She married Jack Trump on January 13, 1945. In 1955 the Trumps settled in Muskegon, where Jack worked in Human Resources for the S.D. Warren Company. In addition to her family and friends, Jean's great loves were teaching and politics. She taught at Muskegon High School from 1962 until 1989. In 1982 she received the Muskegon Public Schools' Excellence in Teaching Award for her skill and dedication in teaching Social Studies. In 1987 she received the Muskegon Bar Association's Liberty Bell Award for her unique ability to communicate her enthusiasm for learning about government. Beginning in the 1950's, Jean was active in the Democratic Party, working tirelessly to support numerous local, state and national candidates and issues. After she retired from teaching in 1989, Jean fulfilled a long-time dream by going to Washington where she worked for three months as an intern for then Senate Majority Leader, George Mitchell. Jean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and various community organizations including PEO, Torch, AAUW, and Delta Kappa Gamma International Educators' Society. SURVIVORS She is survived by her son John (Jane); grandson Dan, All of IL; granddaughter, Michelle (Scott) of CA; brother, Will Gaskell of CA; and a host of dear friends. Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack. SERVICE A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2008, 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 2577 Wickham Dr, Muskegon. MEMORIAL: In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Friends of Hackley Library or Muskegon Public Schools Education Fund.
