Jay L. Hoeksema, 89, went to be with his Lord on April 7, 2008, in Peoria, AZ. Mr. Hoeksema was born July 3, 1918 to Bert J. and Gertrude (Medendorp) Hoeksema in Muskegon. He served in the Army Air Corps in China and India during WW II. Mr. Hoeksema retired in 1973 as a supervisor with the U.S. Post Office and moved to Sun City, AZ. He married Viola Berkel in 1940 and she preceded him in death in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Edith (Marr) Hoeksema; daughter, Barbara (David) Whited of Greenville, SC; grandsons, Dale (Julia) Greenville, SC and Jon (Juline) of Windsor, PA; 2 great-granddaughters and by 1 step-son and 3 step-daughters. Also surviving are brothers, Marvin (Mildred) and Dr. Ron (Lieschen) and sisters, Betty, Delores (Pete) Bishop and Audrey Burgess; and one brother-in-law, Fred Buthker. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. John and sister, Evelyn Buthker. A memorial service was held at Grace Bible Church, Sun City, AZ where he was a charter member.
