Janice Marie Agard

Janice Marie Agard, age 78, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024. Born in Muskegon, MI on July 2, 1946 to Russell & Norma (Hewitt) Agard, she married Charles Saxe in 2013. He preceded her in death in 2015.
Janice, a graduate of Reeths Puffer High School in the class of 1964, went on to earn her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education from Western Michigan University. For twenty years Jan inspired the students at Orchard View Schools as an English and reading instructor while also leading after school "Dancercise", "Slimnastics" and coordinating the Orchard View Travelers adventures around the country.
In 1993, Jan moved to the English Department at Muskegon Community College where she served as Chair. Jan's poetry was accepted for publication in numerous national poetry journals. She was a member of Unity United Methodist Church. Singing in the choir, she often harmonized in duets with her mother.
Jan was a friend to every dog and cat. Her door remained open to each of her students as a mentor and friend. She laughed easily and often. Her enthusiasm was contagious. Her energy and love of teaching, infectious. She was that special, mischievous aunt in the lives of her nieces and nephews.
SURVIVORS
Her survivors include her two brothers; Kenneth Agard, Hans (Kathy) Agard, brother-in-law William Ross. Also, her nieces and nephews; Susan (Rodger) Richards, Brent (Kimberly) Ross, Janis (Tim) Mitchelson, Bryan (Cassondra) Ross, Corey (Stephanie) Agard, and Kelly (Michael) Greeby. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Judith Ross, a sister-in-law Kathleen Agard, and her niece Michelle Agard.
