Mr. James A. Stibitz, Sr. passed away Saturday morning, September 6, 2008, following a long illness. Jim was born in Muskegon Heights on May 12, 1926 to Harry and Mary (Myers) Stibitz. He was a 1944 graduate of Muskegon Hts. High School and was a life- long member of Temple United Methodist Church, and was past president of the Methodist Men's Group. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country during both, WWII and in Korea. It was at Temple Methodist Church on November 5, 1947 he united in marriage with the former Doris A. Coffman. Mr. Stibitz was the former owner of Muskegon Valve Co., eventually selling the company to his son David, and continuing to maintain a presence at the company well into his retirement. Jim was a former member of the Muskegon Exchange Club, and was a former Boy Scout Leader for Troop 20. Mr. Stibitz was an avid hunter and fisherman owning the boat the "Leaky Valve". Jim is survived by his loving wife, Doris; daughter, Susan (Don) Rop of N. Muskegon; son, David (Ellen) Stibitz of N. Muskegon; brother, Kenneth Stibitz of N. Muskegon; daughter-in-law Jane Stibitz of Fruitport; four sisters-in-law: Helen Coffman, Beatrice Stibitz, Bea Dornbos and Sandy Stibitz; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, James Jr. on June 25, 2008. A memorial service will be held at: Temple United Methodist Church, 2500 Jefferson St., 2:00 P.M., Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, Rev. Rob Cook officiating. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial contribution to: Temple United Methodist Church or Harbor Hospice.
