It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of James Monroe Jones Jr., known fondly to many as Junebug. Born on December 10, 1949, in Muskegon, MI, to James M. Jones Sr. and Yearlee (Richardson) Jones. James passed away on October 15, 2025. He was a beloved member of his community and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
James' journey through life was filled with creativity and joy. He spent his early years attending South Shores and Wesley Schools, and later participated in the MOKA program, where he engaged in various community activities. In 1995, he became one of the first residents of the JBC Adult Foster Care Home, and shortly thereafter, he began his rewarding career at Goodwill, where he worked until his retirement in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. James Jr. resided at the JBC Home until relocating to the Cretsinger Care Homes in Battle Creek, MI, in August of 2024.
James was not only a talented laborer but also a gifted artist. He loved to doodle and paint, attending weekly art classes at the Lakeshore School of Fine Arts. His creations brought happiness to many, much like his charming personality, which had an incredible ability to make people smile. Whether he was singing, dancing, or enjoying karaoke nights with friends at JBC Home, James knew how to spread joy. James Jr. loved going for coffee with John "Pops" Thornton. He also enjoyed spending time with Rosie Thornton.
He loved simple pleasures-whether it was his cherished clicking pens or indulging in eggnog and pineapples, which he claimed made him "happy." He would often barter with you to trade pens, keychains, and lanyards. Anyone who knew him would always bring extra pens. James had a knack for leaving his mark, quite literally, often hiding his belongings around the house to signify he had been there.
James is survived by his loving sister, Telko (Sam) Cunningham, nieces and nephews, Shena Jackson, Jerriel Franklin Sr., Katrina (Waylan) Phillips, DeMarcus Jones, Gregory Adams, Carlesha Hugley, Michael Jones Jr., Carl Hugley, Aziza'Eshe Cunningham, special cousin Tiffany Lyons along with a host of other relatives who will cherish his memory forever. James Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, James and Yearlee Jones, one brother Michael Jones, one sister Debra Jones, and nephew Miltwaun Jones.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate James' life on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Clock Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian Jackson officiating. He will be buried at Sunrise Memorial Gardens next to his parents.
