James Paterson Hicks

Mr. James Paterson Hicks, age 73, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2007 at a local hospital. Mr. Hicks was born October 12, 1934 to Leon L. and Ruth B. (Price) Hicks in Rogers, AR and has been a resident of the Muskegon area for 60 years. He served his country in the US Army. On February 23, 1957, he married the former Doreen Carlson in Muskegon. Jim was employed as a storekeeper with Brunswick for 42 years prior to his retirement in 1996. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Doreen Hicks; children, James E. (Kathy) Hicks and Gayle (Mark) VanDyke; grandchildren, Shelly (John) Carnes, Christy (Dale) Miller, Stephanie Singleton, Nicholas VanDyke, Katie (Rich) Hicks, and Danielle (Austin Whelpley) VanDyke; great-grandchildren, Tyler, MacKenzie and Hailey Carnes, Cora and Paige Miller, Brian Leonard, Jr., and Emma Singleton; brother, Charles "Pete" (Betty) Hicks of Grant, MI; sister, Nina (Pete) Hines of Rogers, AR; and extended family, Nels (Barb) Carlson, Dennis (Arlene) Scurlock, Wanda (Terry) Udell, and Martha Hicks. Jim was preceded in death by 1 grandson, his parents, parents-in-law, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 31 at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231 726-5210 with Pastor Brian Kyle officiating. Interment will be in Fruitland Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Sunday. Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be made to Harbor Hospice.
