James "Jim" R. Daly

Mr. James "Jim" R. Daly, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at the Hackley VNS Hospice House. He was born July 17, 1925 to Fred E. and Laura E. (Gibson) Daly in Petoskey, MI where he attended high school before serving in the U.S. Naval Air Corp for 3 years. On October 18, 1947, he married the former Dolores G. Kartes at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Muskegon. Jim attended Muskegon Business College and worked for Shaw Box Crane. Prior to his retirement in 1988, he had worked for AB Dick Products Company for 40 years and part-time at Logan's Speedy Print for 15 years. In moving around West Michigan, Jim and Dolores have been members of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, where he was a lector, and are current members at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Mr. Daly was past president of Muskegon Exchange Club and was a member of Cursillo in Muskegon. SURVIVORS include his wife, Dolores; 3 sons, Patrick (Debra) Daly of Caledonia, Michael Daly of Muskegon and Timothy Daly of South Carolina; 2 daughters, Therese (Jeff) Freyermuth of Oregon and Kathleen Daly of Muskegon; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Carol (Raymond) Finneran of Muskegon and Janice (David) Smith of New Buffalo. Mr. Daly was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Jack and his brother, Ralph. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, May 23, 2008 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (1716 Sixth St.) with Rev. Fr. Jack LaGoe presiding. VISITATION will be Thursday from 2-4PM & 6-8 PM at The Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 with a SCRIPTURE SERVICE being held at 6PM. BURIAL will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery.
