Jack A. Sorensen

Mr. Jack A. Sorensen, age 83, went to be with his Lord on Monday, December 1, 2008. He was born in Muskegon on June 14, 1925 to William and Alice (Wilde) Sorensen. Mr. Sorensen served in the United States Army as Private First Class during WWII. He earned 5 Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. After his service to his country, Jack attended The University of Michigan Business School and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelors of Business Administration. He was employed by Cannon Muskegon Corporation as the Chief Financial Officer before retiring in 1987. Mr. Sorensen was a member of Forest Park Covenant Church and a former member of Central Lutheran Church before they disbanded. In both church homes, Mr. Sorensen was a very devoted and active member. He had a beautiful tenor voice and was a member of the Para-Duets barbershop quartet. Mr. Sorensen loved gardening and was always very generous with the fruits and vegetables that he grew. His generosity could also be seen in his willingness to volunteer at many local organizations, including the many hours volunteered as a Docent at the Muskegon Museum Of Art. Above all, God and family were most important to Jack, and he instilled those same values in his children and grandchildren. On August 16, 1952, Jack married the former Donna M. Paulson and she survives him along with 3 children, Rev. Matthew (Sheree) Sorensen, Kay (Don) Nelson and Tim (Sue) Sorensen; 8 grandchildren, Joel (Elise), Dan, Sarah, Adam, Hilary, Marie, Jim and Ellen; 1 great-grandson, David and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers, Bill, Paul, Bob and George. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 2PM Friday at Forest Park Covenant Church (3815 Henry Street) with Rev. Russ Carlson officiating. VISITATION will be from 5-8PM Thursday at The Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 and one hour prior to the service at church. MEMORIALS in Jack's name may be made to Forest Park Covenant Youth Ministry or the Museum of Fine Arts Endowment Fund through the Muskegon County Community Foundation.
