Jack F. Hudson Profile Photo

Jack Frederick Hudson passed away peacefully on the morning of February 19th, 2019. He came into this world by way of Benjamin and Eva (Suits) Hudson on August 8th, 1926 in Grand Haven, Michigan and, except for the time he spent serving his country during World War II, lived his entire life there. He had one older sister Edith Wennersten and four older brothers Benjamin, Albert, Donald, and Earnest who preceded him in death. He is survived by his sisters Emily Brown and Betty Verberkmoes. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and fought at the battle of Iwo Jima. After leaving that island he determined the most valuable endeavor he could engage in for the rest of his life would be that of raising and nurturing a family. On August 23rd, 1947 he married the love of his life and dance partner Eldora Ruth Doddie Williams and the family began! Over the course of the next 21 years 5 sons were born; Randy (Julie) Hudson, Kevin (Jeri Lynn) Hudson, Michael Hudson, Shawn Hudson, and Paul (Jennifer) Hudson. Later they were blessed with 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren bringing him and Doddie great joy! One granddaughter, Jessica Joyce Hudson and his beautiful wife preceded him in death. Jack served the body of Christ at St. Pauls United Church of Christ for many years as usher, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and council member. He further served his community as a member of the Ottawa County Sheriffs Department - mounted division along with his trusted mount Tony. After the needs of his wife and family were met, he enjoyed horseback riding, shooting and reloading, archery, woodworking, reading a good western, genealogy, and low-stakes poker with friends. He could also swim and yell just like his childhood hero Tarzan (the Johnny Weissmuller edition, of course!) We love you and we will miss you very much Dad (Grandpa)! Thanks for all you taught us and for living what you taught! The family would like to thank Hospice of North Ottawa Community and the Hospice staff at Heartwood Lodge for their care and support. MEMORIAL SERVICE Saturday, March 23, 2019, 3:00 PM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Grand Haven with Rev. Matt Schmidt officiating. MEMORIAL: St. Paul's UCC.
