Iris June Obradovich

OBRADOVICH, MRS. IRIS JUNE Village of Fruitport, MI Mrs. Iris J. Obradovich, age 96, died Friday, May 23, 2003. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI on June 18, 1906 to Garrison & Maude Peak Bright. She taught junior high school in Michigan from 1926-1942, and in California from 1942-1963. She and Eli met at Saline High School in 1939, where they both were teachers, and they married in 1942 at the University of Chicago, where Eli was stationed as an aviation cadet. Iris retired from teaching in Sacramento, California in 1963, and she and Eli returned to Michigan when Eli retired in 1981. Although Iris and Eli did not have children of their own, Iris's legacy continues through her many nieces and nephews. Her deeply held belief in the power of education to free the spirit has transformed their lives. Iris and Eli traveled extensively, having crossed the United States from shore to shore countless times and circled the globe several times. She often visited the Middle East, including the Holy Land. Her cosmopolitan vision deeply influenced her family and widened their horizons. Iris was a longtime member of Fruitport Congregational U.C.C. SURVIVORS She is survived by Eli, her husband of 60 years; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. SERVICE Wednesday, May 28, 2003, 11:00 AM at Fruitport Congregational U.C.C. with Pastor Don Wood officiating. Interment at Fruitport Cemetery.
