A true Muskegon "Big Red", Irene graduated in 1967. In the years following her high school graduation, Irene attended Muskegon Community College, attaining an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Whether volunteering at local events, supporting neighbors in times of need, or lending her voice and presence to community initiatives, Irene exemplified what it meant to care deeply for the place she called home.
As a child her faith in God anchored her growth as an adult, she was baptized by the late Reverend Fernand Fritz at Bethesda Baptist Church. Irene remained a member of Bethesda for many years. In later years, Irene was an active and devoted member of the Lighthouse Full Life Center Church in Grand Rapids, where she drew strength and joy through worship, fellowship, and serving others. Her strong faith and spiritual guidance provided comfort and inspiration to many.
Deeply committed to social justice and civic engagement, Irene was a proud member of the Muskegon Chapter of the NAACP. She was also a dedicated member of the Daughters of the Elks and the Michigan State Association of Elks, through which she contributed significantly to charitable causes.
Irene was known for her strength and courage. She was a beloved sister, aunt, friend, and community member who touched countless lives with her wisdom and support.
