Mr. William "Wasyl" Huryk, age 81, passed away Monday evening, February 12, 2007 at his home in Norton Shores. He was born in Kutyska, Ukraine on March 8, 1925 to Mikata and Takna (Tkasszuk) Huryk. He immigrated to the United States on May 4, 1954 and moved to Muskegon where he met and married his wife of over 50 years, the former Alice Lesausky, on July 16, 1955. Mr. Huryk had been employed by Muskegon Paper Box for over 20 years before retiring in 1983. Prior employment included Campbell, Wyant, and Cannon, S.D. Warren Paper Mill, and 5 years as a miner in the Belgium Coal Mines. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a former member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Mr. Huryk enjoyed taking apart and repairing small engines, and loved to garden, and was able to maintain his beautiful gardens until last year. He is SURVIVED by his wife, Alice; 2 children, Joann (Chuck) Fishel of Whitehall and Gregory (Donna) Huryk of North Muskegon; 5 grandchildren, Dan, Lisa and Steve Fishel, Nick and Alex Huryk; and 2 sisters, Marta and Anna, both of Ukraine. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Naska. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11AM Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Norman Droski officiating. VISITATION will be held tonight, Wednesday, from 6-8PM at The Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 and tomorrow, Thursday, from 10-11AM at church. The ROSARY will be prayed at 5:30PM on Wednesday at The Walburn Chapel. INTERMENT will be in Norton Cemetery. MEMORIALS in Mr. Huryk's name may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to Food for the Poor, Inc.
