Reverend Hollis Allen

Muskegon, MI

Reverend Hollis Allen, a beloved father, brother, and community leader, transitioned into eternal rest on October 4, 2025, at the age of 99, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born on May 19, 1926, in Junction City, Arkansas, he was the cherished son of Jake and Laura Mae (Allen) Poole.

A man of profound faith, Reverend Allen united with the Union Ark Baptist Church at an early age and dedicated many years of service. In 1948, he moved to Muskegon, Michigan, where he worked for 20 years at Lakey Foundry until its closure, then worked 19 years as a custodian at Muskegon Community College until retirement, during which he was known for his warm smile and uplifting spirit.

On May 3, 1969, he was ordained as a Pastor at the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Twin Lake, Michigan. Reverend Allen was actively involved in the Shoreline City Ministry and served as a Chaplain. His commitment to faith led him to join Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Martin, Later joining Jackson Hill Baptist Church until it's closure and then he returned home to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Reverend Allen had a profound love for nature, enjoying fishing and hunting, and was frequently seen visiting friends, spreading joy with his melodic singing. He was truly a beacon of light in the lives he touched.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Barbara Johnson of Milwaukee, WI; great-grandsons, Malik Johnson, of Killeen, TX, and Dauntonia Allen, of Temple, TX; Step-daughter, Pamela LeFear-Johnson of Charleston, SC; Step-son, Brian LeFear Sr. of Muskegon; his two God-sons, Reverend Barry (Bridgette) Pierce, Reverend Eugene (Clemi) Miles; five God-daughters, Crystal (Kenneth) Lang, Denise (Steven) Parks, Linda Clark, Lori Williams, and Kim Reed; as well as two nieces in Eldorado, Arkansas, and one niece in Winchester, CA. He is preceded in death by his wives, Lillie Dale Allen and Emma Allen; his parents; his sister, Gussie Mae Martin; brothers John Willis (JW) Allen and Hershal Allen; son Hollis "Bill" Crosby; grandchildren Terrance Allen, Charles Johnson, Skyler, Sha'Rena Moore; step-daughter Regina Lyn LeFear; and God-daughter Helen Ealy.

SERVICE

Reverend Hollis Allen will be honored in a heartfelt funeral service on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 2745 Huizenga, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Reverend Barry Pierce will preside over the ceremony, reflecting on Reverend Allen's extraordinary life and his unyielding faith.

Prior to the service, there will be a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location, allowing friends and family to gather and share memories. Reverend Allen will be laid to rest in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, ensuring his legacy continues in a place of remembrance.
