Mr. Eric A. "Bud" Hjort, age 98, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, October 26, 2006. He was born June 17, 1908 in Dalarna, Sweden to Andrew and Anna Marie (Anderson) Hjort, immigrated to the U.S. in 1912, and moved to the Muskegon area in 1942. Mr. Hjort worked for Teledyne Continental Motors Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1970. He was a member of T.C.M. Local 113 and a life-time member of the Muskegon Eagles Aerie 668. Mr. Hjort was the oldest living member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, where he served as financial secretary and usher for 40 years, and most recently as official greeter. He enjoyed helping others in need. On September 2, 1933, he married the former Madelyn R. Drauden in Barrington, IL and she preceded him in death on September 5, 2001. SURVIVORS include a son, William Hjort of Roosevelt Park; daughter, Barbara Homrich of Defiance, OH; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond Hjort of Normal, IL; and special friend, Doris Christianson. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Joseph Homrich, and brother, Herman Hjort. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church (1655 Norton Ave.) with Rev. Sarah Samuelson officiating. VISITATION will be from 6-8 PM Monday at The Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. (231) 759-8565 Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Preferred memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
