Mr. Hiram "Sam" Keur, age 79, of North Muskegon, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008 at his home. Mr. Keur was born March 15, 1929 to Hiram, Sr. and Hazel (Harris) Keur in Muskegon and was a life resident. He had been employed for many years at the Grey Goose Tavern, Maple Tavern, and retired from the American Legion in Grand Haven in 1989. Hiram joined the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, was a lifetime member of VFW Post #446, and was a 45 year member of the Viking Linne Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Allan. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ione (Groters ); his beloved daughter, Stefanie Dobberstein (fiance', Todd Simerson); two grandsons whom he dearly loved: William, Jr. and Nicholas Dobberstein; Todd's daughters: Ashley and Haleigh Simerson; one brother, Ronald (Nancy) Keur; sisters-in-law: Valerie Keur, Norma ( Ace ) Cole, Marlene Garza. He also leaves an uncle; nieces, nephews; and his special friends, the Knuttilas of Munising, MI, whom he claims as his family. Sam loved the out-of-doors. He was an avid deer hunter spending as much of the winter in Munising as possible bringing home his trophy deer. He loved horses, fishing, snowmobiling, and his trucks; but, most of all, he loved spending time with William and Nicholas. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18th at the Viking Linne Lodge, 3132 Lakeshore Dr. Interment in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Memorials in Hiram's name would be appreciated by considering the Alzheimer's Association or The Viking Scholarship Fund.
