Helen Marie Temple

Helen Marie Temple, born in Muskegon on April 18, 1961, lived a life marked by honesty, perseverance, and the steady presence of family who loved her. She was the daughter of Albert Temple and Carol Jean Puflett, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her brothers Daniel and Dennis Temple. Helen's life was not always easy, but she met every challenge with a quiet determination that defined her character more than any hardship ever could.

Helen grew up in a large, blended family where loyalty ran deep. A graduate of Orchard View High School's class of 1979; Helen worked for many years at Goodwill Industries. She took genuine pride in her job and valued the independence it gave her. Helen lived with significant medical challenges, including severe epilepsy, and later the long-term effects of a serious COVID infection. These were not small burdens, yet she faced them without complaint.

For the last seven years of her life, Helen lived at Sheridan Home, where she was cared for by staff who appreciated her personality. She was known there for her sweetness, her patience, and her habit of brightening a room simply by being in it. Even as her health declined, she remained gentle and grateful for the people around her.

Helen enjoyed simple, steady pleasures: painting in watercolor and acrylic, playing piano, listening to Christian hymns, bowling, baseball, summer camp, and participating in Special Olympics activities. These were not hobbies she pursued casually; they were the parts of life that brought her joy, strength, and connection. She bowled with passion, and she continued to find comfort in music and creativity until her final months.

Faith was second nature for Helen. She attended Broadway Baptist Church and other congregations over the years, finding acceptance and companionship in those communities. Church was a place where she felt at home.

Helen passed away on July 29, 2026, at Harbor Hospice Poppen House. She was surrounded by family and caregivers in her final hours and tended to with the same care she had always shown others. She slipped away quietly and now rests in peace with the loved one who passed before her.

Helen is survived by her sister, Sheryl (Anthony Goodwin) Iams, and her brother, George (Candace) Puflett, and many extended family members who loved her dearly. She is also remembered by her niece, Jessica Iams, who shared a close and affectionate bond with her. Helen was a genuine soul who returned that loyalty in her own quiet way.

Her ashes will be laid to rest beside the family who went before her, creating a place of continuity and remembrance.

Helen's life was not defined by grand achievements, but by resilience, sincerity, and the steady love she gave and received. She leaves behind memories of laughter, stubborn determination, gentle humor, and a spirit that endured more than most ever knew. Those who loved her will carry her memory forward with love, honor and affection.
