Mrs. Helen A. Carpenter, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, October 16th, 2013 at Heartwood Lodge in Spring Lake, MI. She was born in Muskegon, MI on June 10th, 1921 to Alexander and Caroline (Uchman) Zack. Helen resided in Whitehall, MI until 1998 when she moved to Grand Haven, MI. Helen devoted her life to her daughter and family. She took interest in her several nieces and nephews lives. Helen was a lifetime waitress, working at Schuler's in the 1940s and 50s and retired from The White Sands restaurant at the age of 77. She was an avid sports fan and never missed a Detroit Tigers game. Helen enjoyed traveling to many beaches with her daughter and traveling north on color tours with her sisters. Shopping, dining out, and bowling were some of Helen's favorite activities. Helen was an iconic part of her family and will be greatly missed. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Heartwood Lodge for all of their care and support over the past 6 years. SURVIVORS Sister, Alexandria Fricano of Grand Haven; son-in-law, Robert (Kathy) Thompson of Spring Lake; sister-in-law, Dolores Zack of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Thompson; sisters, Ursula Kendall and Sophie Campbell; brothers, Anthony, Stanley and Theodore Zack. MEMORIAL GATHERING A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013 at 5:30pm at Fricano Place, 1050 W. Western, Muskegon, MI. MEMORIAL: In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Mary's School in Spring Lake, MI.
