Harvey J. Myers

Mr. Harvey J. Myers, age 75, passed away unexpectedly at his Norton Shores home Friday evening, November 7, 2008, ending his courageous battle with lung cancer. Born to Michael and Anna (Toth) Myers, March 26, 1933, Harvey was a life-long Muskegon resident. He was employed at Teledyne Continental Motors all of his professional life. He retired in 1995, ending a career that spanned over 43 years. Mr. Myers received several distinguished services awards for his work with many nonprofit organizations, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Ducks Unlimited. His other memberships include Lakeside Vets Club and Vikings Linne Lodge #57. Harvey enjoyed all of the outdoor sports Michigan has to offer. Hunting, fishing, boating gave way to golf, which became a true passion, resulting in four hole-in-ones at various Michigan courses. Other hobbies and activities included gardening, and the search for the perfect tomato; hours spent in the kitchen preparing one of his many famous recipes; and weekends of sports of all kinds. Daily walks with his beloved dog, Rusty, and his newly acquired Kasey (the ever wandering dog) provided him a great source of joy and companionship. His lust for life and ever present smile will be missed by his surviving family and friends. He leaves his 2 daughters, Vicki (Mike) Miller of Corona, CA and Cheryl (Larry Spruit) Myers of Grand Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Tim Miller, Brad (Mandi) Miller and Dave (Tammy) Miller; 6 great grandchildren, Jacob, Ellee, Kenadee, Kaelin, Anthony and Payton. His special friend and life companion, Doreen Squire and her 3 children Susan (Tim) Hrynewich, David Squire, and Steven Squire and her 5 grandchildren, Stephanie, Kevin, Ryan, Reed and Hailey provided him an extended family. A Celebration of Life MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11AM Thursday, November 13, 2008 at The Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. INTERMENT will be in Lakeside Cemetery. MEMORIALS in Harvey's name may be made to the Vikings Scholarship Fund or to a charity of your choice.
