Harvey M. Helms, Jr.

HELMS, JR. HARVEY M. Norton Shores Mr. Harvey M. Helms, Jr., age 82, died Tuesday, September 27, 2005. He was born in Morgan County, AL on July 7, 1923 to Harvey & Flora Campbell Helms. Mr. Helms had served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. His work in Naval Communications earned him several commendations and awards. After leaving the service, he obtained his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Alabama, and later, a Masters from Western Michigan University. He had been a Language Arts Teacher at Muskegon Public Schools for 30 years until retiring in 1983. He enjoyed traveling, creative writing, jogging, music, and his grandchildren. SURVIVORS Wife of 57 years, Elizabeth; son, Mark Helms of Muskegon; daughter, Kay Knud Hansen of Okemos; 3 grandchildren, Erin Hansen of Ann Arbor, Jennifer Helms of Lansing, Lauren Nathan Werner Hansen of East Lansing; 3 sisters, Verlin Allen Stinson, Verna Case, both of AL, Grace Dale Porter of Muskegon. SERVICE Friday, September 30, 2005, 3:00 PM at the Clock Chapel. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery. VISITATION Friday, 2-3 PM at Clock Funeral Home.
