Mr. William John Harrison, age 82, died Tuesday night at Poppen Hospice Residence. He was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Shelby, the fourth of Winifred and Clifford Harrison's five sons. Bill attended Muskegon Community College before serving his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He earned his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees at The University of Michigan. On May 24, 1949, he and Marjorie K. Lombard were married. For more than 40 years, Bill taught journalism, English, psychology and parapsychology at Muskegon High School and Muskegon Community College, as well as The University of Michigan and Michigan State University. Teaching was more than a career for him; it was his legacy. A member of Temple United Methodist Church, Bill was in the choir and volunteered in the church's tutoring program. He also volunteered for Mission for Area People's Supper House and Food Pantry. He is survived by his wife, Marge; and family, Susan Harrison Wolffis and Arthur Wolffis; Nathaniel Manley Harrison; Kerri Manley Bennett and Jim Bennett; David, Sheryl and Walker Harrison; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Elaine Harrison; sisters-in-law, Mary Lombard, Joyce Lombard and Norma Harrison; brother-in-law, Jim Lombard; cousin, Pat and Gordon Wyns; goddaughters, Dr. Carin Alcock and Danielle Forberg; nieces and nephews; and a large and loving family of friends, students and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Bob, C. Charles "Tar"; and Tom. MEMORIAL SERVICE: will be held Saturday 11 A.M. at Temple United Methodist Church, 2500 Jefferson St., with Rev. Rob Cook presiding.
