Harriet Rop, age 92, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 30, 2007, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She was born June 28, 1915, in Grand Haven to Henry and Jennie (Tysman) Beukema, and she married James "Jay" Rop of Muskegon, Michigan, on November 23, 1945. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1993. Harriet earned a Bachelor's degree in education from Calvin College and taught in Christian schools for many years. Harriet and her husband lived in Muskegon, MI, and later in Grand Rapids, MI. They enjoyed spending their summers along the Lakeshore in Grand Haven and moved there in 1983, following retirement. She was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven, and she enjoyed leading Bible studies, reading, and knitting. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Rop and Cheryl (Greg) Gabrielse, both of Sheboygan, WI; two sons, James (Janice) Rop of Clinton Township, MI, and Charles (Sheri) Rop of Byron Center, MI; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchild-ren; a sister, Angie (Rev. John) DeKruyter of Grand Rapids; a sister-in-law, Ruth Rop of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews. The service for Harriet will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Michael Koetje officiating. Friends may meet the family 4-7 p.m. Monday, December 3, at VanZantwick Bartels Kam-meraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Restlawn Cemetery, Muskegon.
