Marjorie Helen Hampel, age 89, surrounded by family and friends, joined her Heavenly Creator November 18, 2006. Marjorie was born November 11, 1917, to parents William and Lydia Snyder, and grew up in the White Lake area. After graduating from Western Michigan University, she married her husband Kenneth, and moved to Grandville, where she raised her four children and taught elementary school for 30 years. After retiring, she moved to a home on Duck Lake. Marjorie loved helping others and was selfless in devotion to her friends and family. Her life was a testimony to the motto of Temple Methodist Young Adult Sunday School Class of which she was an integral part. "Christ first, others second, myself last." She was often found volunteering for the American Red Cross, March of Dimes and the American Heart Association. She was an active member of the White Lake Congregational UCC, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was a life-long member of the Michigan Education Association and the Delta Gamma Society International. She believed deeply in being a steward of the earth and spent much of her time and creative energy volunteering for environmental and peace-keeping organizations such as the Lake Michigan Federation, garden clubs, the Audobon Society, the National Arbor Day Foundation, Mouth Cemetery Restoration Committee, Code-PINK and the White Lake Peace Team. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth and four children, Sondra Timken, Terrie Hampel, Kreigh Hampel and Janet Hampel; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; 2 sisters, Lydia Argo and Doris Benedict; 2 brothers, William Snyder and Charles Snyder; 15 nieces & nephews. A MEMORIAL SERVICE: For Marjorie will be held Friday, November 24, 2006, at 11 AM, at White Lake Congregational UCC, 1809 S. Mears Ave., Whitehall. VISITING HOURS: Friday 10AM until service time at the church in Whitehall. Those desiring an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a DONATION to White Lake Congregational UCC, 1809 S.
