Celebrating The Life of Gwendolyn Fay Woods

Sunrise: July 20, 1950 - Sunset: April 9, 2025

Gwendolyn Fay Woods was born on July 20, 1950, to the late Kathlean Brewster-Jones in Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church in Bernice, Louisiana.

Gwendolyn attended Westside High School in Lillie, Louisiana, where she played basketball and was well known for her impressive three-point shot. She graduated in May of 1968, and then moved to Muskegon Heights, Michigan, where she joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully as an usher.

In 1970, she married the love of her life, John Woods. Their 55-year union was blessed with two sons. Gwendolyn was employed at Meijer for many years and later at K-Mart, before retiring. After retiring she got restless and ended up working briefly at Walmart. In her later years, she united with Rev. Butt's ministry and continued her service as an usher until her health declined.

Gwendolyn leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, John Woods; son, Warren Wendell Woods and his wife Fredrina; daughter-in-law, Rodena Woods; sisters, Clementine Hill, Jennie (Billy) Darnell, and Dewanda Kay Jones; brother, Don Kevin Jones; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son Milton J Woods; Father Henry Lee Jones; Mother Kathlean Brewster-Jones; Grandparents Lola B Jones and LaVelle Brewster; Brothers Henry Lee Jones Jr and Billy Roy Brewster; Sister Carolyn D Gray.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church on Eighth Street in Muskegon Heights. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Mona View Cemetery.
