Guy Franklin Campbell Jr., age 94, died on Nov. 1 at Avalon Apartments in Madison, Wisconsin. A resident of Norton Shores from 1968 until 2000, Guy was the only child of Elizabeth (McKeown) and Guy F. Campbell. He was born on Dec. 21, 1912, in Hammond, IN, and married Olive Virgene Austgen on Oct. 15, 1939. The two were inseparable until Olive's death at the age of 90 on Sept. 1, 2006. Guy, a graduate of Northwestern University, loved his family, music (especially Dixieland), golfing at the Muskegon Country Club and boating/ fishing on Mona Lake. A successful corporate executive for much of his life, Guy and Olive moved to Muskegon when he was named president of Lakey Foundry. For Guy and Olive, each move was a new adventure. They embraced life and made friends wherever they lived. They were especially close to the "Dirty Dozen," six couples who socialized often together. In 1974, Guy and Olive opened the Yard Barn, a popular knitting and needlework shop, which they operated for over a decade. Both loved living in Muskegon and gave back to the community accordingly. Guy was active with United Way, INDEX (Industrial Expansion Commission), MADC (Muskegon Area Development Council) and the Civic Opera Association. He was also an active member of the Congregational Church, serving as treasurer of its Board of Trustees for a number of years. In the mid-eighties, the Campbells sold their lake home and moved to a condominium at Mona Kai, where Guy served an unprecedented term as the president of the Mona Kai Condo Association. Residents there renamed their recreational center the Campbell House in honor of Guy's dedicated service. In 2000, Guy and Olive moved to Madison to be closer to family. Guy is survived by a son, Guy, (Lucie) Campbell III of Potomac, Md.; and daughter, Genie (Thomas) Rostad of Madison; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Memorials may be made to the Olive Campbell Education Fund (to provide scholarships to certified nursing assistant students at Madison Area Technical College) or the Don & Marilyn Anderson Hospicecare Center in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, through Genie Rostad, 6026 Greentree Road, Madison, WI, 53711.
