Danigelis, Mr Gust P Muskegon Gust P. Danigelis, age 93, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family on Saturday, April 18, 2020. Known also as Deno, he was born in Muskegon, MI on March 15, 1927, to Peter and Christine (Klikas) Danigelis. He married Mary Theodore, his "...gal in Kalamazoo...", on September 7, 1952, and was a loving husband and adoring father of four. He was a graduate of Muskegon High school and attended Muskegon Junior College. In 1944, at the age of 17 he enlisted in the Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater on the USS Admiralty Islands (CVE-99) and later was stationed in Bremerton, WA. Upon his discharge, he joined the family business located in downtown Muskegon, which in 1948 was moved to Norton Shores and renamed Three Star Beverages. Joined later by his brother Peter, the store was a mainstay on Henry Street until closing in 1995. A man of many interests, he was a voracious reader, having a passion for history,Winston Churchill, Lionel trains, old coins, vintage cars, and a love to amuse with his reservoir of facts, factoids and trivia. He loved to entertain; Fourth of July was a favorite holiday, His annual display of fireworks was a neighborhood delight as were his Halloween greetings at the door. Proud of his Greek origins, he honored his heritage maintaining a life-long devotion to faith, home and community. He was a member of Ahepa #213, charter member of Muskegon Railroad Historical Society, Escort Carrier Sailors and Airmen Association, Muskegon Grand Lodge #140 Free Masons, Saladin Shriners, Packard International, West Michigan Symphony and Muskegon Art Museum. He attended Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Muskegon, serving as choir director, board member, sponsor of athletic teams, youth groups and activities. Following his retirement, he spent 12 years volunteering for SCORE. He lived a second and third childhood with his children and grandchildren. His love for them was boundless...he will be missed. May his memory be eternal. Survivors: Wife, Mary; four children: Constance (Theodore) Benca of East Lansing; Paul (Maria) Danigelis of Ashburn, VA; Catherine Danigelis of Seattle, WA; Annette (Donald) Ponozzo of Plainwell; two grandchildren: Anna Danigelis of Nashville, TN and Connor Danigelis of Chicago, IL. Because of Coronavirus restrictions, a Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
