Gregory (Greg) A. Houtteman, 60, of Fruitport, Michigan died peacefully at home on January 13,

2024, after a long illness.

Greg was a big guy with a big personality and a big heart; he loved helping people in need.

Greg was born on October 23, 1963 in Royal Oak, Michigan. A passionate hockey player, cyclist,

and choir and theatre member during his school years, Greg told wonderful stories about the travels

associated with these passions. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1981, joined the US

Army Reserves where he served as a Drill Sargent in the Airborne and Ranger Divisions. After

earning a Computer Science degree from Eastern Michigan University, Greg continued his lifelong

career in technology; he loved programming!

In addition to computers and gaming, Greg took great pleasure in cycling, fishing, playing music,

attending concerts, and outings to the theater. Time spent on the boat, at the marina, fishing with

family and friends, participating in tournaments, and taking others out charter fishing on Lake

Michigan made Greg so very happy.

Greg is survived by his partner of 23 years, Jennifer Swinehart, brother Dennis (Trish) Houtteman,

sister Thais Peterson, sister Sue (Jack) Gleason, nephew Stephen (Pam) Houtteman, and great-

nephews Mason and Owen Houtteman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Joyce

Houtteman and brother in-law John Peterson.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Greg's memory by going fishing or taking a walk or riding your bike

and do something nice for someone. He would love that!

A small family gathering will be scheduled for a later time.
