Grace B. Rood

ROOD, MISS GRACE B. Muskegon, MI Miss Grace B. Rood, age 93, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2003. She was born January 17, 1910 to John and Anna Andersen Rood and was a life long resident of Muskegon. Miss Rood taught school for 42 years in local public schools, primarily in Lindberg Elementary School and Roosevelt Elementary School. She retired in 1972, and was active in various retired teacher circles. During her long retirement she enjoyed meeting many of her former students who recognized her and thanked her, even after all those years. She was a ''first generation'' American and proud of her Norwegian heritage. She made many visits to Norway in the 1960's and encouraged each family member on each side of the Ocean to get to know one another. Having never married, she was ''Aunt Grace'' to her extended family and was always generous with her time and talents. SURVIVORS She is survived by two brothers, Carl Florence Rood and William Judy Rood; one sister Helen Hitt, all of Muskegon; two nieces Barbara Joseph Novak, of Traverse City MI, and Karen Ronald Summers, of Pelham AL; three nephews, Robert Joyce Rood of Jacksonville FL, Brian Jessica Rood of Overland Park KS, and A.Scott Cynthia Rood, of Muskegon MI; and thirteen great nieces and nephews. SERVICE Saturday, June 21, 2003, 1:00 PM at the Clock Chapel with Pastor David Faris officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the Clock Family Center.
