It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gladys Jean Kelly, age 84, who gently departed this world on December 29, 2025. Born on January 4, 1941, in Tennessee, Gladys was the cherished daughter of Willie and Helen (Hall) Williamson.

Gladys made a remarkable impact as the first African American woman hired as a telephone operator for GTE in the Muskegon area, a testament to her pioneering spirit and dedication to service in the field of communication. After her retirement, she continued to serve her community as the church secretary at the Church of the Living God, reflecting her unwavering commitment to faith and fellowship. As a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she exemplified grace and compassion throughout her life.

She leaves behind a loving family, including her sister, Jenny Williamson; her beloved grandson, Julius Kelly, and his partner, Heidi Palma; grandchildren, Julia Weaver, Clarissa, Tasha Kelly, Sade Kelly, Marquis Kelly, Kentrell Roberson, Almari Weaver, Junarion Weaver, Monyae Parker, Makayla Parker; great-grandchildren, Savannah Young, Lennox Harris, Trendon Kelly, Grayson Kelly, Avery Kelly, and Kahlani Kelly; her daughter-in-law, Valencia Kelly; and her special nephew, Douglas (Lynn) Kelley. Gladys is preceded in death by her two sons, Leon Elliot Kelly and Gene LaVon Kelly, whose memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Church of the Living God, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her extraordinary life. Rev. James Williams Jr. will officiate the service.
