Gladys V. Gust

GUST, MRS. GLADYS VIOLET ERICKSEN. Widow of Courtney, Sr. Mrs. Gladys Gust, age 91, died peacefully at home on Friday, December 9, 2005. She was living with her daughter, Candace Gust Robinson, in New City, New York, but had lived in Muskegon for most of her life. Born on March 28, 1914, to Julia and Lars Ericksen of Muskegon, she was one of 11 children who grew up working hard on her parents dairy farm. She married Courtney Aloysious Gust on June 20, 1934. They bought North Muskegon Dry Cleaners in 1956 working the business together for 15 years. North Muskegon Dry Cleaners was a third generation family business also being owned by son Courtney, Jr. and granddaughter Birgitta Gust Romaniello. Gladys and Courtney wintered in Lakeland, Florida for many years and enjoyed off season Tiger games. They also enjoyed snowmobiling with friends and visiting with family and neighbors. They were long time active members of the Community United Methodist Church in North Muskegon. Gladys, affectionately known as "Gogi" to many, was a loving and committed wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is fondly remembered with the tradition of Sunday family chicken dinners. She was generous in love, quick with logic, and grounded in family. It was with her leadership that her family has enjoyed its closeness that will last for generations to come. She will be deeply missed. Survivors include daughter Candace Robinson Dale, daughter in law Mary Gust Bytwerk John, grandchildren Birgitta Gust Romaniello Chris, Greg Gust Laura, Courtney A Gust III Teri, Ted Jahanshahi Erin, Holly Robinson, and Sean Robinson, great-grandchildren Nick Romaniello, Katie Romaniello, Ben Romaniello, Jamison Gust, Alexandra Gust, Dakota Gust, Emily Essex, Jacob Essex, Cameron Gust, Carter Gust, Brett Koch, Courtney Jahanshahi, Tyler Jahanshahi, Caroline Jahanshahi, 1 sister Jane Newville Don, 1 brother Robert Ericksen Dorothy, sister-in-law, Mary Ericksen. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Courtney Gust, Sr. and son Courtney A Gust, Jr. Preceded by sisters Christine West George, Agnes Poort Richard, Ida Nelsen Frank, and Alice Burns Duffy. Brothers Herman Ericksen Lottie, Kenneth Ericksen Mary, Raymond Ericksen Joann, Harold Ericksen Irene. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at 11:00 am at the Community United Methodist Church in North Muskegon.
