Gerrit Bud Steigenga, age 93, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Friday, April 18, 2008 at his home in Muskegon with his family at his side. He was born on November 23, 1941 in Muskegon to Harry and Gertrude Steigenga and resided here for most of his life. He graduated from Muskegon High School and was proud to serve his country as a member of the U.S. Navy in World War II. After the war he worked for several years at American Coil Springs and then became owner of Eastown Service, which he operated until 1976. He was a member of Forest Park Covenant Church. On June 21, 1941 he married Eleanor M. Oland, who preceded him in death on January 26, 2004. He is survived by his son, Charles and Dorothy Steigenga of Rockford; 2 grandsons, Gary Steigenga and Shanna Patterson and Andrew Stiegenga and Annice Hunter, all of Cedar Springs; sisters, Annette Biddle and Harriet Bush, both of Muskegon; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, 11:00 A.M. at Forest Park Covenant Church, 3815 Henry St., with Rev. Paul D. Bengstrom officiating. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
