Mrs. Geraldine M. "Gerrie" Monehen, age 90, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Seminole Shores Living Center. She was born October 10, 1917 in Muskegon to Edmund and Hulda (Padelt) LeRoux and lived most of her life the area. On February 19, 1944, she married John T. Monehen in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1992. Gerrie worked 35 years as a kindergarten teacher for Clare Public Schools and Muskegon Heights Public Schools retiring in 1983. She taught piano for 50 years and was a member of the Muskegon Music Teachers. She was also active with the National Retired Teachers Association and the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Gerrie was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic church where she served in the Ladies Guild, volunteered as an organist and pianist, and was a Eucharistic distributor. SURVIVORS include 2 sons, Michael (Linda) Monehen of Chicago, IL, Dennis (Susie) Monehen of North Muskegon; 1 daughter-in-law, Jane Monehen of Muskegon; 4 grandchildren, Erin (Patrick) Sokol, Michelle (Gary) Lenz, Kristen (John) Peto, Derek Monehen; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Edmund (Dolores) LeRoux of Huron, SD; 1 sister, Esther (John) Ferencsik of Muskegon. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson as celebrant. INTERMENT will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery. VISITATION with Gerrie's family will be 5-8 PM this evening at The Sytsema Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue (231) 726-5210 The Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM.
