George Halverson, Jr.

George Halverson, Jr. , age 80, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on June 19, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mildred; a son, Larry (Jennifer); three grandchildren, Kendra, Sean, and Heidi; a great-grandson, Riley; a brother, Maurice (Sue) Halverson; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Jack (Julie) Schugars. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Fowler. George is a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member and past president of the NALC. He was the founder of the Roosevelt Park Boys Club, and enjoyed volunteering his time at several area nursing homes and with the Goodfellows. George was also an avid softball player. Those who know him will always remember his warm smile. George was a member of the Lakeside Baptist Church, 2250 Denmark, where funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Leslie Lew officiating. Visitation will be held at the Ever Rest Funeral Home and Chapel, on Sunday, 5-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Lakeside Baptist Church.
