Anacker, George Edward North Muskegon George Edward Anacker, long time resident of North Muskegon, passed away peacefully in Grand Haven on Monday, June 28, 2021. George was born in Antigo, WI, on November 16, 1923, son of George H and Helen (Omernik) Anacker. He grew up in Maquoketa, IA, where his dad managed the JC Penney store. His summers were often spent with his mother's relatives in the lake country near Spooner, WI. George enlisted in the Navy in 1942, learned to fly as a Naval Aviation Cadet, and eventually becoming an Ensign and Flight Director on an escort aircraft carrier. After the war, he attended the University of Minnesota on the GI Bill, graduating with a Business degree in 1948. He moved to Chicago to work for the Wieboldt's department store, and soon met Josephine Fitzpatrick. They were married in Muskegon on June 7, 1950, and moved to Muskegon in 1953. George worked for most of his career for Fitzpatrick Electric Supply Co., the family business. He began as a purchasing agent, moving eventually to become the VP of Finance, and Corporate Treasurer. He retired in 1991, but continued on the board until the company was sold in 1995. After retirement, George and Jo enjoyed traveling to see the world and visit friends and family. George enjoyed gardening, especially while listening to his Cubs on the radio. He followed the Cubs through 5 world series, finally winning in 2016. Another of his passions was building his cabin on the Little South branch of the Pere Marquette river. He was always happy working with his family building during the day and playing hearts and eating licorice in the evening. As the cabin was completed, he taught his children to canoe and spend time on the river. George was a long time member of the First Congregational Church in Muskegon. He was also the senior member of the Muskegon Kiwanis Club, having joined in 1955, and was the club president in 1962. George volunteered with United Way, and with Muskegon Habitat for Humanity. George and Jo were generous contributors to the Muskegon Community Foundation and the United Way. In later years, George also contributed generously to help start the Boys and Girls Club in Muskegon. George was a loving husband, wonderful father, ethical businessman, and life-long community volunteer. His humor and friendship will be missed by all who knew him for the kind, gentle, and thoughtful man that he was. SURVIVORS He is succeeded by his children: Greg (Lora Bennett) of Seattle, WA, Susan (Jim Johnson) of Shorewood, MN, and David (Darlene) of Grand Haven, his sister Kay Perry of Bettendorf, IA, and six grandchildren.
