Frank E. "Gene" Hathaway II, age 89, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023. He was born in Muskegon, MI on September 30, 1933 to Kenneth & Helen (Baldwin) Hathaway and was a lifelong resident of Muskegon. After graduating from Muskegon High School in 1951 Gene spent 30 years in the automobile business, first as general manager of the family owned Hathaway Motor Company, then as a salesman with Matson Oldsmobile and Cadillac. A career change in 1981 put Gene in the investment Securities business for 27 years until his retirement in 2008 from Capital Financial Group.

Gene enjoyed his hobby, broadcasting high school football and tournament basketball games on WKBZ and for 27 years, beginning in 1952 was the "Voice of the Muskegon Big Reds". He was a long-time member of the Muskegon Country Club where he enjoyed golfing, and his short game was his asset. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church where he served in many capacities.

Gene married the former Marianne Kramer in July of 1958 and they were together for over 63 years until her passing on March 7, 2022. He is survived by son, Geno (Kim) Hathaway; daughter Amy Hathaway of Big Rapids; grandchildren Morgan, Tucker and Oliver; brother Jack (Lori) Hathaway of Florida.
